You know, I don’t need any resources to make me any more awesome.
Actually, my business now is a carefully crafted network of awesome things all working together to support me and my clients. Below is a list of the business and web resources I use very frequently and that work brilliantly for me, and while some of the links here are affiliate links (meaning for every item purchased, I receive a small commission to support my business), I absolutely, categorically WOULD NOT promote anything unless I really believed in it.
Awesome things for your website
WordPress website hosting just rocks better with Dreamhost. I’ve used them for the past 5 years and I wouldn’t dream of changing. The shared hosting is incredibly robust, my sites run smoothly – and if you need a higher level of hosting when your site gets more popular, they also offer dedicated WordPress hosting AND VPS options. Support are quick to respond to any questions, and lest I forget, the incredibly reasonable monthly fees AND one free domain name certainly sweeten the deal.
If you’re going to have a mailing list, make it a bloody good one. I’ve loved Mailchimp from the beginning, simply because I like the layout, it’s easy to use and the templates included are bang on trend. Added to that, when you start, money can be pretty tight, and for the first 2000 people on your list, the account is absolutely free. What more could you want? Get Mailchimp here
Look, you know and I know that Pop-ups turn heads and generate more email sign ups on your website than anything else – some suggest more like 30% more. But, really, it’s 2017 and no-one likes your rude popups – if I’ve been on the page for half a hot second, I’m probably still trying to read the blog post I came here for, OK? Enter stage left Bloom Email optin plugin for WordPress which is basically the easiest, most stylish, most polite way of using a pop-up on your site that you could think of.
This clever plugin by Elegant Themes also gives you the freedom to add opt ins for your header or widget area, sign up forms that appear on blog posts and pages, pop-up opt in boxes that appear after a certain amount of page has been scrolled, and even opt ins that can unlock content. It’s the most powerful and elegant solution for gathering emails without being sleazy butthead jumping out like those annoyingly jolly charity collectors who just want £7000 a week and your firstborn, and it easily connects to most major email providers.
